New Clients

Ruth Cohen, LPC is a Licensed Professional Counselor in Nashville, TN. She accepts online payment. Appointments may be made online or by email and telephone.

I am accepting new clients with Aetna insurance only or new clients who wish to self pay at my standard rate of $150 at this time. If you have another insurance and wish to be a standard rate client ($150) you may choose to opt out of using your insurance and I would be happy to discuss this with you via the free 15 minute consult.

Client fit considerations.

  • I have daytime appointments available. Most of my ongoing appointments are between 9-2 Monday to Friday.

  • I am accepting new clients with Aetna insurance only or clients who wish to self pay at my standard rate at this time.

  • I work with individuals at this time. If you are looking for couples or family work, I am not able to accommodate you.

  • In person therapy seems to work better in my experience. I do see clients online and find this to be effective in many cases. For many, this is the only way therapy can fit into our schedules. When we are working on intense emotional work especially trauma processing, I will want you to come into the office. If you are seeking primarily EMDR trauma processing, I need to see you in person most of the time.

  • In person, clients need to be vaccinated for COVID-19. Additionally, we will switch to a virtual session when either us has had a covid exposure or my have a likelihood of shedding a contagious illness.

That’s me. What’s next….

Follow this link and request an appointment . You can request either a 15 minute virtual consult for fit on Friday or Monday or an initial/ intake session in any open time on my schedule.

What to expect from a virtual 15 minute consult? The initial consultation won’t take the same format as a typical therapy session book it here https://ruth-cohen.clientsecure.me . The success of therapy depends so much on your working relationship with your psychotherapist. Fifteen minutes goes by fast, therefore it is helpful to think about what would help you know if this is a good fit for you. Do you want to know if I have experience working with your concerns? Need a sense of length/ pace or treatment or expected outcomes? Curious about my therapeutic approaches, training or orientations? Want to check for cultural or personality fit? Want to understand confidentiality, billing, scheduling?

What to expect from an intake session? You may schedule an initial session following this link https://ruth-cohen.clientsecure.me. You will be prompted to enter your name and email and select an open appointment time. When I approve your appointment time, you will be sent a link to complete a intake paperwork. If you do not complete this paperwork before we meet, I may cancel your intake appointment or require you to complete the paperwork before the end of our first session. If you take the time to read my practice policies (rather than scroll and sign) it will save us time on this administrative task in our first session. If you have questions about the intake process or policies please reach out via email or text. Psychotherapy sessions generally last 50 minutes and a first session does tend to go by fast, therefore you may have an expanded lists of many of the same curiosities listed above.

Appointments

Generally, I am available Monday to Thursday and Friday mornings, during the day and early evenings in my East Nashville office (new office 102 Point East, 37216) or in my virtual office https://doxy.me/ruthcohencounseling.

My office is Inglewood Therapy, 102 Point East Dr., Inglewood, East Nashville, 37206. Please note the address because I have heard that google may route you to an older office that is no longer mine.

We are in a “small office park” our office has ample parking and our suite is labeled with a green sign saying 102 Inglewood Therapy. When you come in the door there is a marque board with the name of the office and a list of practicers with offices here. Behind that door is a small lobby and I will meet you there. Sometimes I run late by a few minutes, so do not worry if I am not out right on the hour.

If you attempt to communicate with me immediately before your appointment or during my office hours, I will likely not be able to reply to your communication because I am with another client. I do try to respond to urgent messages on my brief breaks between clients. If your communication is not urgent, I may not reply until I am not with a client and have administrative time built into my work schedule. If something has come up and you need to convert your in person appointment to online psychotherapy please text me and I can make the work. I will reach out with a link or Facetime call or you can meet me at https://doxy.me/ruthcohencounseling It does take a few minutes to get the machines going for the change..

My email is ruth@ruthcohen.net

My standard rate is $150 for a 50 minute session. Your insurance typically has negotiated a lower rate and may pay a portion of that fee. Please call your insurance to understand your rate.

If you no show, no call for your first appointment I will l charge you my customary rate of $150 an hour. Insurance will not pay this fee as no health service has been provided. You may cancel up to 48 hours in advance with no charge.

I am now in the Aetna/ VHAN network and many Vanderbilt copays are $25 unless you have the higher deductible plan.

Please verify your coverage prior to your first visit. The easiest way to verify what your portion of the cost of counseling are is by calling the toll free number on the back of your card. The call to your insurance is confidential and they can tell you about deductibles, and co-pays.
